Are you feeling overwhelmed and finding it hard to cope? Wellness Connect is a space for you to educate and empower yourself on your wellness journey.

In this 8 week program, participants will work through topics around mental health and self care while utilizing artistic tools. Working alongside facilitator Alawiya, you will have space to dialogue, build knowledge around Afrocentric approaches to self care and develop useful coping mechanisms.

We’ll be tackling topics and themes like physical health through yoga and dance, nutrition, mindfulness and navigating burnouts and seasonal depression.

Meet the Facilitator

Alawiya has been creatively expressing herself since she was five years old. She enjoys creating visual arts as a form of outlet and self care. However, in recent years she has developed an interest in other forms of art such as photography, makeup, and fashion. In terms of education, Alawiya studied her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree at Ryerson university in Child and Youth Care. She is currently in her final year of her second Masters in Social Work at York University. Her current work involves supporting young people with special needs and their families as well as being a researcher.
