Now in it’s 2nd year, the Artists-in-Residence program provides a small cohort of Afro-diasporic artists with the resources, tools, and opportunities to jump start their creative careers.
Understanding that space, financial constraints, and a sense of community are often significant barriers faced by Black artists within Toronto, the Artists-in-Residence program provides participating residents with an environment that holistically supports their growth in ways that allow for each resident to push their creative limits. I’m extremely grateful that Nia Centre selected me to participate in their first residency. My career has grown so much from this experience! In particular, the staff go above and beyond to secure fruitful opportunities for emerging artists. Through this program, I have participated in several group shows this year, sold artwork, spoke on a panel, and facilitated a painting workshop. I truly believe Nia Centre has been a major stepping stone that has further propelled me into my purpose this year!
