With the mission to support the development of Black women filmmakers and content creators living within Toronto or the GTA, we collaborated with Black Women in Film! Canada and Scarborough Arts to present the annual Film & Video Intensive Camp, We Thrive!Black Girl Film Camp, a seven-day intensive filmmaking course for girls and non binary youth between the ages of 16-24, the opportunity to build their filmmaking skills and create their own short film.
Understanding the lack of representation, access and barriers Black women filmmakers face when navigating the film industry, We Thrive! provides youth participants with a professional network of filmmakers, skill-based workshops, mentorship and hands-on experiences, to prepare them in their pursue of a career and taking on diverse leadership roles across all aspects of the film industry.
We Thrive! Black Girls Film Camp is facilitated by award-winner filmmakers and educators Ella Cooper and Laurie Townsend. Participants will gain mentorship and work alongside film industry professionals.
