About Apanaki Temitayo

Apanaki Temitayo is a pansexual, multi-disciplinary, multimedia fibre artist and art facilitator based in Toronto, originally from Trinidad. With a deep connection to her Trinidadian heritage and spirituality, her canvas compositions serve as a powerful expression of her artistic vision. Apanaki is currently represented in the Sales and Rental Program at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) and is an esteemed member of the Women’s Art Association of Canada.

In 2019-2021, she held the prestigious title of the Center for Addiction and Mental Health’s (CAMH) 1st Artist in Wellness. Her talent and creativity were showcased at the Kuumba Exhibit, Where She Went, She Thrived at Harbourfront Centre presented by Nia Centre for the Arts in 2021. Apanaki’s artistic journey also led her to become the Workman Arts Artist-in-Residence for 2017-2018.

A trailblazer in her field, Apanaki became the first woman of colour to be featured in Room Magazine’s Woman of Color Issue in 2016. Her exceptional talent was further recognized when her original artwork, Oshun Blooming, was commissioned for the Grow Room Feminist Literary Festival 2018 in Vancouver. Today, this remarkable piece holds a special place in the private collection of Donna Slaight, the Founder of The Slaight Family Foundation.
