Black By Design is officially back — new and improved.

This year marks the introduction of our Urban Planning stream, where you’ll be reimagining your city by designing vibrant spaces that uplift Black culture, reflect our stories, and centre the voices of your generation. This 10-week intensive program is tailored for aspiring urban planners, and will introduce participants to the core tenets of the discipline, so you can create spaces that are functional, inclusive, and community-centred. Through lessons on mapping, land use and public space design, you’ll also be working to develop creative solutions to planning dilemmas that reflect Black culture and identity through lessons on mapping, land use and public space design.

We’ll be prioritizing applicants aged 18-29 who live in Toronto, can commit to the full duration of the program, and are genuinely interested in exploring a career in urban planning.

Program dates:

Applications close: July 23rd, 2025

Start date: Tuesday August 5th, 2025
