Celebrate our Little Jamaica and Oakwood Village neighbourhoods through this free, 7-week printmaking program.

Facilitated by visual artist Khadijah Morely, community members ages 16 and up will participate in a series of weekly workshops where they will learn about a variety of printmaking methods including linocut and screen printing. During these workshops, participants will work towards the creation of visual gifts / tokens to our community, including prints, letters, and more.

Works created by participants will be showcased at Nia Centre during a Community Showcase in Fall 2023.

Space in this program is limited, and will be offered on a first come, first serve basis, with priority being given to individuals living within the Little Jamaica and/or Oakwood Village neighbourhood, who are able to attend all workshop sessions.

All workshops will take place at Nia Centre for the Arts, 524 Oakwood Avenue

Saturday Drop-In Sessions

Not able to commit to the full program, but looking for an opportunity to try your hand at printmaking? Join us every Saturday from 12 – 2pm at Nia Centre for our Drop-In Printmaking Series. All ages are welcome!

During Drop-In sessions, participants will be able to create prints using pre-made screens and linocut blocks. Facilitator Khadijah Morley will walk you through the basics, and you’ll walk away with a keepsake print, available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Have a clothing item or piece of fabric you’d like to add a bit of artistic flare to? Bring it along with you to one of our Drop-In sessions to add a printmaking touch.

Meet the Artist

Khadijah Morley (she/her) is a Toronto based artist and educator with a BFA in Drawing and Painting and minor in Printmaking from OCAD University.
Khadijah’s work is autobiographical, informed by her lived experience as a Black woman in Canada born of Jamaican immigrants. She creates work from a Black-feminist framework; prioritizing subjectivity as a counter-narrative. Through the process of etching and relief printing, she depicts Afro-surrealist themes where dreams, magic, and reality converge. Khadijah has been featured on CBC Arts, and has been a recipient of the Fellowship Program at KALA Art Institute in Berkeley, California. Website | Instagram
