CalIing all emerging photographers interested in learning about darkroom photography
Interested in exploring the art of darkroom photography, and developing your own film photographs?
In partnership with Gallery 44, we’re bringing back the award-winning annual analog film photography program, OUTREACH. This year, we are working with the theme of “movements” to provide young creatives and emerging photographers (ages 18-29) with the creative space to explore darkroom photography and learn how to tell their own stories using film photographs in a traditional darkroom studio.
Facilitated by Toronto-based portrait and documentary photographer Ebti Nabag, OUTREACH will consists of six hands-on intensive workshops and discussion groups. Each workshop will be 4 hours in length. Selected participants will be provided with access to a darkroom studio, materials and the equipment needed to develop and create a photo series.
OUTREACH will conclude in an exhibition, where participants will have the opportunity to exhibit their developed works at Gallery 44, connect with industry professionals, and gain further perspective on the career of a photographer.
PROGRAM DATES:
TTC Tickets will be provided as needed.
Except for the inaugural class held at Nia Centre for the Arts (524 Oakwood Ave), all workshops will be held in person at Gallery 44 Photographic Production facility, located at 401 Richmond St. W.
Deadline to register: May 15th, 2025 | 11:59pm.
Ebti Nabag is a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s MFA program Documentary Media in Film and Photography. She is a visual artist who works with photography, video, and installation. She is also a digital and analogue photography instructor. She teams up with galleries and community centers to develop photography programs that provide opportunities for creative self-expression and aid in the development of identity.
Her work and documentations focus on telling stories of people in communities who are underrepresented. She also uses her work to connect with her home country, Sudan, and the people and culture of Sudan.
Ebti hopes her documentations serve as bridges between people and communities.
