About the Program

Nia Centre is a Recommender for the 2021-22 Exhibition Assistance Grant Program, administered by the Ontario Arts Council. The Exhibition Assistance program supports Ontario-based artists and artist collectives working in visual arts, craft and media art practices in the presentation of their artwork in a confirmed public exhibition. Through this grant program, artists and collectives can apply for $500 – $2000.

This is a third-party recommender program. Using Nova, OAC’s online grant application system, artists apply to the galleries and organizations designated as recommenders for the program. These recommenders assess applications and submit grant recommendations to OAC.

Our Deadlines, Eligibility, and Priorities

We are a recommender for Ontario-based, Black-Canadian artists and art collectives working in visual arts, craft, and media art practices presenting work in a confirmed public exhibition. As a Recommender, we are prioritizing the following artists and projects:

  • First-time applicants to the program
  • Project that support the applicant’s career development and artistic practice
  • Projects that expand and push Black visual aesthetics and cultural development

We are holding two deadlines for this grant program: September 10, 2021, 1pm EST and January 13, 2022, 1pm EST. Applications will be reviewed by Nia Centre staff, and successful applicants will be notified within two months of each deadline.
