Are you aiming to turn your artistic passion into a lucrative business? Join Business sm(ARTS), a five-part series delving into key aspects to bolster the entrepreneurial facet of your artistic journey.

Artist Taxes

In this tax-focused workshop, artists get expert guidance from CPA Kelly Ross on tax prep, deductions, artistic expenses, grants, T4s, and HST. This session is interactive, aiming to demystify tax complexities and empower artists with confidence in managing their financial responsibilities.

Meet the Facilitator

Kelly Ross

Kelly Ross is the Managing Director and CEO of Ross Professional Corporation. She is a member of CPA Canada leading with strength, knowledge and passion, having over 20 years of experience in accounting and taxation. Through her career she worked in a multi-national CPA firm, then moved on to be a subject matter expert for development of an accounting program at a college. Kelly’s interest and passion for accounting came from her mother whose career was in the accounting realm. Kelly has a love for the arts and entertainment industry, which stemmed from having a father who had talent and love for music. Kelly herself played the piano, trumpet and was a dancer through her early years. Now in her downtime, Kelly can be found around the hockey rinks supporting her daughter’s hockey team and following her nephews in their live band performances. She is truly a people person and has a special skill making everyone she meets feel special.

Personal Finances

The Personal Finances workshop is crucial for artists entering the world of monetizing their art. Led by Finance for the Culture, a licensed financial professional, it provides essential knowledge on budgeting, debit/credit, investments, and fostering a positive money mindset. Attendees will gain comprehensive guidance for informed financial decisions, strengthening the financial foundation supporting their artistic endeavours.

Shay Myers

Shay Myers created Finance for the Culture as an educational platform to provide accessible and digestible financial education to everyday Canadians. She dismantles the fear of finance by simplifying key financial concepts so people can understand how money really works and build financial confidence. Just 3 years ago, Shay had $200 to her name and a 476 credit score but when she learned the rules of the money game and applied them, her life changed. She saved $40,000 in 9 months and invested $20,000 by the end of that year. She became a licensed financial advisor and educator because she realized she could make real systemic change through financial education. So far, Shay has hosted 100+ workshops and helped clients pay off over $100,000 in debt. She has also been featured on TVO Today: The Agenda twice as a guest speaker. Finance doesn’t have to be stiff or overwhelming and Shay’s mission is to revolutionize the industry by taking a holistic approach, building long-lasting relationships and helping people build solid financial plans. Marissa Williams

Marissa Williams is more than an entrepreneur; she’s a business enthusiast and the founder of Boss Lab. Much like many of you, Marissa was born with an entrepreneurial spirit. Her entrepreneurial journey began nearly 11 years ago while she was still in college, navigating the challenges and triumphs that come with building a business.

These experiences fueled Marissa’s passion for business and entrepreneurship, prompting her to pursue a Master of Business Administration & Entrepreneurship. Her goal was to leverage her expertise to teach others the art of strategic business planning and the use of essential business tools to build successful and sustainable businesses.
