In this four-week collage-based series, interdisciplinary artist, researcher, and community-engaged arts worker Emkay Adjei-Manu will guide participants through an exploration of Black portraiture.
Inspired by Tina Campt’s seminal works, Listening to Images (2017) and A Black Gaze: Artists Changing How We See (2021), the series invites participants to ask: What does the portrait ask us to see that might be overlooked at first glance? Through the process of collage-making, participants will create their own portraits by re-membering, reimagining, and remixing images to attune to the subtleties of Black life. Participants will also engage in memory work, cultivating a practice of attunement, experimentation, and visual storytelling.
This workshop series will be for a fee of $25.00
No prior art experience is necessary.
