A love letter to Scarborough- experience Amber’s journey of hope, loss, and resilience. Get your ticket and see the story unfold
This month, Niaflix shines a spotlight on Morningside, a powerful Scarborough-set drama that explores community, resilience, and the devastating impact of violence on young lives.
Set in Toronto’s east end, the film follows Amber, a talented 14-year-old singer, alongside a group of young people navigating hope, ambition, love, and survival in a neighbourhood marked by systemic challenges. As tensions between rival groups escalate during a community Christmas gathering, a tragic act of violence forever changes the lives of everyone involved.
Directed by Ron Dias and Joanne Jansen, Morningside features an impressive ensemble cast including Fefe Dobson, Kiana Madeira, Alex Mallari Jr., Oluniké Adeliyi, Lovell Adams-Gray, and Joris Jarsky. Rooted in the realities of Scarborough while centering the strength and humanity of its residents, the film offers a moving portrait of community in the face of adversity.
Join us for an evening of film, reflection, and conversation as we celebrate a powerful Toronto story through Niaflix.

About Ron & Aussie Productions

Ron & Aussie Productions is a Canadian film and television production company dedicated to bold, audience-first storytelling. Founded by filmmaker Ron Dias and producer Joanne Jansen, the company develops and produces original projects that spotlight underrepresented voices and global- pop cinema sensibilities—commercial, elevated, and culturally rooted. The company’s breakout films include the award-winning feature Bite of a Mango, which premiered at the American Black Film Festival and went on to win the Audience Choice Award at ReelWorld Film Festival, later securing distribution via AMC Networks’ ALLBLK. Their follow-up feature Morningside proved the model at scale—powered by a grassroots, community-first release strategy and event-style screenings that helped the film sustain a 10-week theatrical run, becoming the highest-grossing homegrown release during its release window, according to a Canadian Press report.
