About the Film

Dancehall Queen (1997) story follows Marcia Green (Audrey Reid), a struggling single mother and street vendor who’s doing her best to survive in a city pulsing with danger and desire. Faced with threats from a notorious local thug known as Priest (Paul Campbell) and an uncomfortable situation involving a wealthy man’s inappropriate interest in her teenage daughter, Marcia reaches a breaking point.

But she doesn’t back down. Instead, Marcia reinvents herself, becoming the enigmatic “Mystery Lady” by night and entering a high-stakes dancehall competition. What follows is a fierce journey of resistance, transformation, and reclaiming power, all set to the soundtrack of Jamaica’s vibrant dancehall scene.
