Last summer, Nia Centre held 'Black Pen' a creative writing intensive program. Facilitated by writer, publisher and multidisciplinary artist Whitney French: the program guided 6 emerging writers to find their unique literary voices. The works from that program have been published by Penguin Random House in a new chapbook called ‘Griot: Six Writers Sojourn into the Dark’.
CBC Books interviewed Black Pen writer Omi Rodney about their story ‘Brother Ellis’, their experience in the program and how they use story as cultural memory.
