What does an agent do? How can they help to nurture your career? How do you go about securing representation?

If you’re a filmmaker, actor, producer, or any other creative who might benefit, we’re hosting a panel discussion to answer your burning questions about artist representation. You can expect a step-by-step guide that will demystify everything you want to know about getting involved with a talent agency—and also a chance to network and build connection with fellow Black professionals in the world of Canadian filmmaking.

About the Panelist

Jennifer Irons

Jennifer Irons, a writer turned talent agent, is the Founder of META Talent Agency, where she manages a roster of writers and directors. In 2021, Jennifer became Canada’s first Black film & TV literary agent and the founder of Canada’s first Black-owned film & TV literary talent agency. Other firsts for Jennifer include founding and launching the first Black-owned hospice company in Illinois in 2012, before expanding to Tennessee, where her company’s mission was to serve underserved families. After overseeing multiple locations with close to fifty employees for seven years, Jennifer sold her company and relocated to pursue her artistic passion and study screenwriting at Act One film school in Hollywood, California.

Eventually, Jennifer moved to Toronto. After spending nine years working as a writer in the US & Canadian film and television industries, Jennifer decided to use her business acumen, people management skills, and passion for addressing racial disparities, to launch META Talent Agency. Jennifer holds dual Masters in Sociology and Social Work from The Ohio State University, and a PhD in Sociology from Loyola University Chicago.
