Sarah Edo is an emerging curator, researcher and cultural worker born and based in Toronto. Her work thinks through Black queer diaspora, sensibilities, desire and materiality. Her creative and cultural pursuits are guided and grounded by her experiences in community work, collective study, and intentional relation-building. Sarah has previously organized with 1919mag, a print magazine and multimedia platform for Black cultural production. She has held project coordination positions with Black women arts collective, Diasporic African Women Artists (DAWA) and Indigenous herbalism and medicine school, Seed Soil Spirit. In 2022, Sarah was selected for a curatorial residency with Black Artists Network Dialogue (BAND) Gallery, where she co-curated several visual artists’ solo exhibitions. Most recently, Sarah curated a group exhibition, Within and Without at the Whippersnapper Gallery, exploring themes of Afro-queer sensibilities through ceramics and sculpture. She is currently completing a curatorial residency a the Gardiner Ceramics Museum. Sarah has transdisciplinary training in Black and queer feminist cultural production through her Masters in Gender studies at the University of Toronto.
