NiaFlix: A Jamal Burger Presentation of Short Films

Nia Centre for the Arts and Kickback Foundation are partnering to present Niaflix: A Jamal Burger Presentation of Short Films. This special event will feature three short films, selected and curated by Jamal Burger, followed by a talkback session moderated by Alica Hall, who will be guiding us through a thoughtful discussion on the themes of these short films.

ABOUT THE FILMS

Jamal Burger | From Me To You: A visual love letter his twin sisters can hold onto forever as his role in their lives will inevitably evolve.

Kickback | One- On- One:  A short film about young men stepping outside of their comfort zone into a world of nature they never knew existed.

Babadnotgood | Love Proceeding: Love Proceeding is a poignant tale of brotherly love set on a summer day in downtown Toronto.

Niaflix: A Night at the Centre is a monthly film series that centers on movies, films and black storytellers that showcase Black Artistic Expression. Featuring carefully curated films, each night will transport you through stories that blend nostalgia, art, culture, giving you that cozy Netflix vibe right at the Centre

About Jamal Burger

Jamal Burger is a Toronto-based filmmaker and photographer whose work is grounded in a philosophy of fostering connection through shared vulnerability. 

 Jamal is also the founder of The Kickback Foundation, a nonprofit established in 2016 to empower youth with dreams but limited resources. The foundation creates and shares inspiring stories, mentorship programs, and educational resources tailored for underserved communities. It leverages the power of media and community as tools for social impact and empowerment.

As an artist, filmmaker, and photographer, Jamal is passionate about telling stories that often make people uneasy. His authentic approach goes beyond mere observation; he connects intimately with his subjects, offering insights and reflections that invite viewers to engage in meaningful introspection.
