Step into the world of Caribbean folk dance with a workshop
Feel the rhythm. Discover the roots.
Behind every beat and every step is a tradition passed down through generations. This Caribana season, step into the world of Caribbean folk dance and experience the stories, history, and culture carried through movement.
More than learning choreography, this interactive workshop invites participants to explore how dance has long been used to celebrate community, preserve history, and express resilience across the Caribbean diaspora. Through movement, music, and storytelling, you’ll discover the cultural significance behind the dances that continue to shape Caribbean identity today.
Led by Shelly Ann McLeod, a Trinidad and Tobago-born dance artist, educator, choreographer, singer, musician, and entrepreneur, this beginner-friendly workshop blends cultural learning with hands-on movement. Participants will learn foundational folk dance movements while gaining a deeper appreciation for the rhythms, traditions, and histories that have been passed down through generations.
Whether you’re reconnecting with your roots or experiencing Caribbean folk dance for the first time, this workshop offers a welcoming space to learn, move, and celebrate together.
